‘I started engaging at a nursery with acres of land and around ninety kinds of apple trees in rows,’ aforementioned the 40-year-old, of Chidham, West Sussex.

‘I needed to grow my very own trees however I didn’t have the world to plant that variety therefore I started my “family tree”. I increase it every year by budding within the summer and graft within the winter.’

But the Winter Gem is that the apple of mister Barnett’s eye. ‘It’s crisp, crisp and sweet,’ he said.
